Learning how to achieve a flawless base has taken me quite a while! This journey has meant learning more about my skin, what products work best for my face and what products work best together! Everyone's face/skin type is different so I can't gaurantee that all these products combined will work for absolutely everyone, I will however, recommend that you substitue what works for you, i.e a hydrating primer instead of a pore-minimizing or color-correcting primer, etc. Just a bit about me: my skin type is a combination of dry & oily, I have redness, spotting, huge pores and ofcourse the random acne breakouts.. I mix a couple drops of oil (Tarte maracuja/ Josie Maran tea tree oil) with two pumps of my moisturizer (Aveeno) and lather my face in that twice a day focusing on the drier parts of my face. Here's my first tip: the more moisturized your face is prior to applying makeup, the easier this layering technique will be to perfect. Before we get started I will mention this is not meant to be a daily routine! In this tutorial we use a lot of product and although we still end up looking natural and not cake-face, it is a time consuming rigme, but otherwise, It is the perfect routine for an event or night-out.

STEP ONE: PRIME.
I'm using Benefits Porefessional* to cover up my large pores, only where I need it.
*This primer can be a bit drying and does not go well with a lot of different foundations so I recommend using the minimal amount to keep from getting dry patches (esp. with matte foundations).

STEP TWO: FOUNDATION.
Here I used MUFE's Ultra HD foundation with 2 drops of my CoverFx foundation to add extra coverage.
*Tip- Apply a very small amount of foundation to the face focusing most of it on the outer parts of the face.

STEP THREE: 2 DROPS COVERFX + PRIMER MIXED
So mixing two drops Custom CoverFX with an anti-redness primer adds coverage. And using a lighter shade foundation (like I did here) also adds a bit of highlight.
*Tip- Using CoverFX lets you customize the amount of coverage you want. For this step, I recommend no more than 2 drops ;)

STEP FOUR: BLEND.
So without a doubt, the number one tool that keeps your makeup from looking un-natural is the beauty blender! This is truely a must-have tool, esp. when it comes to layering! Used damp, the Beauty Blender pushes the product into your face (with bouncing motion) and blends (excess product) out for an even complexion.

STEP FIVE: HIGHLIGHT.
Here I am using the Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer which is lightweight, but still full coverage. Feel free to use a light coverage concealer. Blend this in with a beauty blender or your fingers for best result!

STEP SIX: SET WITH POWDER.
For this step, I personally prefer to use the same damp beauty blender because like I said before, using this tool prevents us from over-applying! Setting your concealer with powder prevents the concealer from creasing or smearing throughout the day. So what I do is set the concealer in place by mixing the yellow shade (top middle) and the matte flesh-tone shade (top left) from my Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette.
*Tip- Sweep a small amount of highlight (the top right shade in this palette works perfectly!) under the eyes for an extra glow!

STEP SEVEN: BAKING/COOKING.
Baking is basically applying a heavy amount of loose powder to the face for extra highlight, leaving it on for at least 2 mins. then dusting it away with a powder brush. I like to do this above and below the cheek contour for a cleaner looking contour!

STEP EIGHT: CONTOURING.
So with all the contouring tutorials out there I'm sure you're all professionals by now so instead of step-by-step how to, I'll just share with you all my tips for contouring.
*Tip- Use two shades for contouring, keep the darkest shade closest to the hairline/ outer parts of the face. Make the silly fish face! It always works ;) Try not to bring your cheek contour past the outer corners of your eyes.

STEP NINE: SETTING SPRAY.
Setting spray makes your makeup last longer and keep it looking fresh throughout the day.
*Tip- To get the most out your spray tilt your head back slightly when spraying!

I know it's a lot but this isn't meant to be a quick, makeup look lol I just wanted to show you all how to add layers/ coverage to the face without looking powdery, over-done or 'cake faced' :) Hope this helps!!
