Low Budget, High Style: Sitting Room

Was anyone else moving during the holidays? We all know moving is stressful, but I feel like when you move during the holidays, with everything going on, it can be downright overwhelming, lol. Nonetheless, we were excited to be moving closer to family and into a bigger and newer home. One of the things I loved about the house was the extra sitting/ living room; it's given us the opportunity to have a living area that is more put together where we can relax, read, fellowship and visit with family and friends (and hopefully keep it a toy-free zone, lol).

My Design Style
In short: calm and bright with gold/silver accents and touches of color.
If it's bright and welcoming and comes together nicely I'll love it. There's only one thing I'm specific about....it's got to be under a reasonable budget. I prefer to style my home with less expensive elements, so this is where I turn to the internet to compare prices from multiple stores near and far. The collage I created above includes budget-friendly pieces from Overstock.com and Wayfair.com. Both are great places to shop, you just have to take your time looking through them. Also, Walmart has some elegant furniture from Home & Garden and 9by Novogratz. Below, I'll explain more about what I've learned from my weeks of web surfing through sales sites and blogs, comparing prices, etc.
The Color Palette
When decorating a room, colors say a lot about the mood you're trying to set and since this sitting room is the first room you see when you walk into my home, I want it to be welcoming and serene. This is why I've chosen to go with white, light blue, navy and gold.
Tips To Help You Get The Most For Your Money
Read the Reviews! -Yes it's even more time consuming, but if you're really considering buying the product take the time to read the reviews. What I like most about doing this is finding that reviewers have posted photos or videos with full review, demonstration or how-to assemble a product.
Pull Up Multiple Tabs for Better Comparison- If you're going to take some time to sit and search the web, pull up multiple tabs and open your top shopping sites for an easier way to compare prices. Do Your Research- If you want to get the best possible deal, take some time to research the type of furniture you want, how your favorite daily sales site work (what time/ day the post new products) shipping (this is important because some places like Overstock don't unload certain products from the truck for you) and brands.
